That's right! Thank goodness for Coca Cola! I don't drink it really but Bethany does. And it's a good thing for me.
The other night, something was done on my part to cause a small measure of friction between Bethany and me. What it was is not important. What is important is that I made amends by way of a peace offering. I made a trip to Walmart and picked up a six-pack of Caffeine-free Diet Coke and some chocolate. (I'm brilliant sometimes; I'm just not consistent about it.) But one problem with the Coke is that it was on a shelf and not in a fridge so it was warm. I had to change that and time was of the essence. I couldn't wait for it to sit in a fridge and even taking my chances and putting it in the freezer for a short amount of time was going to take too long. Serving it to her on the rocks would have detracted from the experience of drinking it straight from the bottle. I thought maybe I could take it home, pour it into a glass with ice, swirl it around a bit and then pour it back into the bottle. But! The process of swirling it would decarbonate the soda and the carbonation is an important part of the experience.
The temperature outside was a stiff 38 degrees. I had my coat on me and the car heater puts out a great deal of heat. So I straddled the six-pack over the top of my partially rolled-down window (pictured above) and headed back home. The heater almost kept up with the intake of cold air at 65 mph. Upon arriving home, the outer 3 bottles were cold enough to serve. I located Bethany upstairs and presented her with the chilled Diet Coke and chocolate with a humble "I'm sorry." She accepted the drink and the chocolate and soon thereafter the apology.
Thank you, Coca Cola Company!
